FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first office visit at Dramatic Weight Loss®?

Your first office visit will take a little over an hour and consist of completing a medical questionnaire, having a medical assessment, and taking a starting before picture, if desired. You will undergo a body composition analysis that includes a number of measurements that provide an in-depth look at your body composition. The consultation is free, even if you decide not to participate in the program.

Should I consult with my physician prior to beginning any Dramatic Weight Loss® program?

Yes, before starting on any weight loss program, it is recommended that you consult with a physician.

Can I do the program if I’m not able to come into the office?

Yes! Simply call the office and let us know you are interested in the out of office program. At that time you will be assigned to a DWL consultant. Your DWL consultant will go over the program with you over the phone, will ship you the products you will need to get started, and will monitor you weekly on your weight loss journey.
*Note: Individuals wanting to take controlled drugs such as Phentermine (Adipex or Fastin) must be seen by Dr. Mansfield.

Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance since most insurance companies view weight loss as cosmetic. We do offer individuals a copy of their superbill, by request, to submit to their insurance company on their own.

Is it possible to lose up to 15 pounds in 15 days on the Mansfield Plan®?

Yes, as long as you have an adequate storage of fat. By following the Mansfield Plan® guidelines you will be given adequate vitamins, minerals, and protein to help your body burn stored fat and keep you healthy on your weight loss journey.

How long can I stay on the Mansfield Plan®?

You will stay on the Mansfield Plan® until you reach your goal weight. After you reach your goal weight you will be put on a maintenance program.

How do I maintain my weight loss?

Maintaining weight loss is about breaking bad eating habits, making healthier food choices consistently, and keeping a healthy metabolism by incorporating small meals throughout the day. Once an individual is close to their goal weight a DWL consultant will discuss a maintenance program with them.

Should I exercise on the Mansfield Plan®?

While exercise is a very healthy habit, it does not significantly increase your weight loss. Exercise is not mandatory for our weight loss program. We will encourage you to start an exercise program once closer to your goal weight or on our maintenance plan. If you are already on an exercise program then Dr. Mansfield recommends maintaining that exercise. However, individuals must replace burned calories by having an extra shake or protein source (see Mansfield Plan® guidelines) before and after you exercise. Saunas and Jacuzzis can burn calories in the same way as exercise and are best avoided during the weight loss phase.

Why is fruit not allowed on the Mansfield Plan®?

Fruit is very high in carbohydrates which kicks individuals out of dietary ketosis (burning fat) and slows down weight loss tremendously.

Will I ever be able to eat fruit or starches again?

In maintenance, individuals are no longer in dietary ketosis and can incorporate a large selection of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and grains.

How can I control my cravings for carbohydrates?

Dr. Mansfield uses very effective appetite suppressants to help control carbohydrate cravings and decrease hunger.

It doesn’t seem like I’m losing any weight. Did I do something wrong?

The amount of weight you lose will fluctuate from week to week. Several situations may change the number on the scale, including the time of day you weigh yourself, your menstrual cycle, not drinking enough water, whether or not you had a regular bowel movement, exercise habits, or how closely you are following the Mansfield Plan®. Don’t panic if the scale doesn’t move for several days – or even goes up slightly. If you stay consistent on your program (and consume all of your meals), the scale will eventually show results. Try to weigh yourself only once a week, at the same time each week.

During menopause does hormone replacement therapy interfere with weight loss?

No, if an individual is in ketosis then the hormones have no effect on the weight loss.

Can I use the Dramatic Weight Loss® program if I’m currently taking medication to treat high blood pressure?

Individuals with controlled hypertension can use the DWL program under the direct supervision of a physician. Your physician may want to monitor your labs and medications. Be sure to consult with your physician before starting any DWL program.

Can I use the Dramatic Weight Loss® program if I am currently taking thyroid medication?

Yes. Individuals can do the program successfully while taking thyroid medication under the direct supervision of a physician. Your physician may want to monitor your labs and medications. Be sure to consult with your physician before starting any DWL program. Within four to six weeks of starting the program, you’ll want to get your thyroid levels rechecked to help ensure that you are receiving a therapeutic level of medication.

Can I do a Dramatic Weight Loss® program if I have diabetes?

If you have type 2 diabetes (adult onset), you should have no problems on the DWL program. Unfortunately, individuals with type 1 diabetes are unable to do any DWL program. Insulin dependent diabetics may or may not be able to do the program depending on their particular type of insulin program. Dr. Mansfield will have to discuss this on an individual basis. We suggest you monitor your blood sugar readings once or twice a day as well as stay in close contact with your physician for instructions on making changes in your medications.
